Trigger Point Therapy

Carrying stiffness or soreness from training or playing ? …Suffering from a sports injury ? …Suffering from headaches or not sleeping well ?

Trigger Point therapy is an experience that helps rejuvenate mind and body.  Trigger point therapy is also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy and applies concentrated finger pressure to “trigger points” (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain. It appears that most muscular pains have a trigger point that causes the muscle to go into spasms. Trigger Point Therapy involves placing pressure on that trigger point so that the muscle can relax and the pain can be lessened. Pressure is generally applied with fingers, knuckles, and elbows. This form of therapy is often followed by stretching the muscles. The basic idea is that the trigger point which is the source of the pain is not always where the patient feels the pain. The trigger point could be several inches away from the place where they feel the discomfort or pain. It is said that by applying pressure to the actual point of the source the practitioner in turn may be able to control the pain experienced.

At PhysioPlus we recognise the importance of Trigger Point Therapy sessions to relieve soft tissue imbalances and help with the prevention of injury.

For sports people, combining your training with Trigger Point Therapy will help aid your recovery and prevent injuries that may occur due to constant playing and training.  By early identification a skilled practitioner will help prevent these from developing into more serious injuries.   Ensuring full recovery through Trigger Point Therapy sessions will enable you to increase your workouts while simultaneously allowing your body to adapt to a greater level of stress.

Our physiotherapists work closely together to ensure that your injuries are dealt with appropriately and effectively, allowing faster recovery and return to sport.
